Brief History of the Department of Veterinary Physiology
The Department of Veterinary of Physiology came into being in 1964 as a component of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It started as the Department of Physiology based on a formal agreement between the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The terms of agreement contracted the Kansas State University to establish a standard Veterinary School to produce qualified Veterinarians, develop programmes for postgraduate training and research in various fields of Veterinary Medicine, train qualified Nigerians to staff and administer the Faculty and advice on facilities and programmes for further growth in physical and academic fields.
i. Teaching and research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of body function in domestic animal species to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
ii. Provide students with an appreciation of the Physiological basis for various disease conditions in domestic and wild animal species.
iii Assisting other Departments and Faculties in training both undergraduate and postgraduate students through teaching and project supervision.
